About me
My interest in foreign languages goes back to my early youth – creating a communicative environment by the use of words and thus enriching social meaning. That is how Niklas Luhmann – with only a few words – acknowledged one of the most impressive tools of human understanding and civilization. By appropriating the language of the 'other', new worlds open up to the individual. Communication in new cultural spaces and cultural connections that bring about social meaning broaden the individual's mind in a variety of ways.
To apply one's own knowledge and skills, is deeply enriching for the translator and who can provide expert help to those who communicate professionally. As a language mediator, I am always on hand with help and advice for you.
I am a German native speaker, trained at the University of Warwick (UK), and familiar with the English language (level of competence C2), Spanish (C2), French (B2) and Arabic (A2).
In the late 1990s, I worked on a book project at the Basisdruck Verlag Berlin, mostly translating historical documents from the 1930s and 1940s from English. For a selected list, see Translations section. Many years of experience in Spanish and French were also useful for additional translations within this project and beyond. During my work as a cultural manager at the Theaterhaus Berlin Mitte, I have participated in numerous international projects. These include in particular the German-Iraqi cultural theatrical exchange and the theatre project “rec>on” by Armenian, German, French and Turkish artists.
On several projects of the Theaterhaus, I have independently created files and translated them into English. I have carried out extensive translations into English, on the occasion of the 1st International Theatre Festival in Erbil (Iraq) that took place from September 18th to 24th 2011. These included correspondences and the complete inventory list for the festival contribution "Mother Courage and Her Children". For more information, see Translations.
In the meantime, I have applied my knowledge of the English language as a teacher in adult education.
I complemented the theater project “rec>on” (the acronym stands for reconciliation) journalistically in a blog in the German weekly magazine FREITAG.
